TOWNSVILLE FIRE SIGN AMERICAN GUARD LAUREN JENSEN
The Townsville Fire are excited to announce the signing of American guard Lauren Jensen for the upcoming WNBL season.
Jensen joins the Fire after beginning her professional career in Europe, where she most recently suited up for AEO Proteas Voulas
The 178cm guard arrives in Townsville following an outstanding college career at Creighton University, where she established herself as one of the premier scorers in the NCAA. A two-time First Team All-Big East selection, Jensen finished her collegiate career as one of Creighton’s all-time leading scorers and a member of the 2,000-point club.
Known for her elite perimeter shooting, scoring ability and composure in big moments, Jensen also earned WNBA opportunities following her college career, signing with the Washington Mystics before later joining the Phoenix Mercury.
Townsville Fire Head Coach Shannon Seebohm said Jensen’s scoring punch and international experience would be a strong addition to the Fire roster.
“Lauren is a proven scorer who can impact the game in a number of ways,” Seebohm said.
“She can stretch the floor, create her own shot and play with real confidence under pressure. What we also like is that she has already taken the step into the professional game in Europe, so she understands what it takes to adapt quickly and contribute in a new environment.
“She comes from a successful college program, has been exposed to WNBA environments, and we believe she has the tools to make an immediate impact in the WNBL.”
Jensen said she was excited to join one of Australia’s most successful women’s basketball clubs.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to compete for the Fire and am excited to be a part of and contribute to their championship culture.” Jensen said.
Jensen becomes the latest addition to the Fire roster as the club continues preparations for the upcoming WNBL season.
