SOUTH32 CANNINGTON EXTENDS TOWNSVILLE FIRE PARTNERSHIP FOR THREE MORE YEARS

Long-standing partnership enters second decade as five-time WNBL champions prepare for 2026/27 season

Townsville Fire is proud to announce that South32 Cannington has extended its sponsorship of the club for a further three years, deepening one of the most enduring partnerships in Australian women's basketball.

The new agreement takes the relationship between South32 Cannington and Townsville Fire past the decade mark, continuing a partnership that began in 2015 and has helped shape not only the club's success on the court, but its impact across North and North West Queensland communities.

South32 Cannington has been a consistent supporter through some of the Fire's most celebrated moments and this latest extension sees the partnership continue as the club prepares for its 2026/27 campaign as reigning five-time WNBL champions.

A highlight of the renewed agreement will be an expanded regional western tour, with Townsville Fire players set to travel into South32 Cannington's local communities in regional Queensland to deliver basketball coaching clinics and mentoring sessions focused on leadership, resilience and life skills. Further details on communities and dates will be confirmed in the coming months.

South32 Cannington Vice President Operations Rob Jackson wished Townsville Fire the best of luck as the team prepares to once again challenge for the WNBL title.

“South32 Cannington is really proud to be a long-term supporter of Townsville Fire and we’re pleased to extend our sponsorship for another three years.

“As well supporting the team on the court, our partnership is helping to make a real difference for young people living in our local communities. It’s been inspiring for local teenagers to meet some of the Townsville Fire stars, to learn more about their personal journeys, receive valuable mentoring time – and get some tips on how to hit a great jump shot!

“We look forward to providing further opportunities for our communities to meet the inspiring Townsville players in the future and we wish the team and all of their fans the best of luck for the season ahead.”

Townsville Fire CEO Sam Pascoe said the extension reflected everything the club stood for as a community organisation.

"South32 Cannington has been part of the Fire family for over a decade now, and this extension is a genuine reflection of what a values-aligned partnership looks like. They don't just put their name on the jersey — they show up for the communities we both care about. The regional western tour is something our players genuinely love being part of, and we're proud to be able to keep delivering that impact together.

" Heading into our 2026/27 campaign as five-time champions, having South32 by our side means we can keep doing what matters most — winning on the court and making a real difference off it."
