The Townsville Fire have moved swiftly to secure the architect of their on-court resurgence, announcing that head coach Shannon Seebohm has inked a new three-year deal that will keep him at the helm until the end of the 2028/29 WNBL season.
The decision strengthens the Fire’s long-term stability, ensuring the league’s most consistent program remains anchored by a coach who has shaped the club’s modern identity. Since arriving in Townsville, Seebohm has guided the Fire to a championship, fostered a culture built on accountability and connection, and turned the club into a destination for top talent and development.
CEO Sam Pascoe said keeping Seebohm was critical to both the Fire’s competitive ambitions and its wider organisational vision.
“Shannon drives high standards in every corner of our program,” Pascoe said. “He’s built a culture that players believe in, fans connect with and our community is proud of. Retaining him was a major priority as we plan for the next phase of the Fire’s future.”
For Seebohm, the extension reinforces his commitment to Townsville—a place he has repeatedly referred to as a second home.
“Townsville is home. This club, this community, and this playing group mean a great deal to me and my family. I’m proud of what we’ve built, and even more excited about what’s ahead. The Fire have big ambitions, and I’m honoured to continue leading the program.
I want to thank the Board for their continued trust, my coaching staff and high-performance team for the work they put in each day, and I especially want to acknowledge Sam Pascoe, an amazing boss, a great friend, and someone who cares deeply about this club. I’m excited to keep building something special here in Townsville.”
Fire Chair Steve Motti said Seebohm’s leadership extends well beyond the hardwood.
“Shannon is deeply respected across the league and throughout North Queensland,” Motti said. “He thinks long-term and develops people, not just players. That’s why this extension was a straightforward and unanimous decision.”
