The Townsville Fire have today announced Courtney Woods as Captain and Alicia Froling as Vice-Captain for the 2025/26 WNBL season — marking the start of an exciting chapter as the club celebrates 25 years of Fire.

The announcement, made at the official season launch, recognises two players who have become pillars of the Fire culture — leaders on the floor, respected voices in the locker room, and proud ambassadors for women’s basketball in North Queensland.

Woods Ready to Lead the Fire Forward

After several standout seasons with the Fire. Known for her tenacity, leadership by example, and relentless commitment to the club, Woods’ appointment reflects the respect she commands from teammates and coaches alike.

“It’s such an incredible honour to be named captain,” Woods said. “This is honestly the proudest moment of my life — to lead a club I love so much. The Fire is a special organisation with a culture that means a lot to me, and I can’t wait to represent our fans, community and teammates every time we step on the court.”

A Hometown Hero as Vice-Captain

Joining her is Townsville’s own Alicia Froling, who will serve as Vice-Captain. A graduate of the Fire Academy, Froling has risen through the North Queensland basketball system before playing college basketball in the United States and returning to the WNBL as a key contributor for her hometown team.

“I’m really proud to step into this role,” Froling said. “This club means a lot to me — it’s where I grew up and where I fell in love with the game. To now help lead the Fire, especially alongside Court, is really special. We’re ready to make this season one to remember.”

Leadership Built on Respect and Culture

Head Coach Shannon Seebohm said both players epitomise what it means to wear the Fire jersey.

“Courtney and Alicia are incredible leaders — they set high standards, bring energy and professionalism every day, and genuinely care about the success of the group,” Seebohm said. “Their leadership will be invaluable as we enter such an important season for the club.”
